Cement plant motor and drive upgrade — Jordan
A two-phase motor and variable-frequency drive replacement programme across a cement plant near Amman, targeting energy-efficiency gains and reliability improvements.
Our role
Motor and drive supplier; commissioning support.
The challenge
What we walked into.
Legacy motors averaging 22 years in service. Repeated bearing failures on key kiln and mill positions. No drives on key high-inertia loads — high start-up current causing utility issues.
Approach
How we delivered.
- 01Engineering audit across all 120 motor positions — sized current load, condition, and replacement priority.
- 02Phased replacement: 40 motors per 4-month tranche, prioritising kiln, raw mill and coal mill.
- 03Added VFDs on 18 key high-inertia loads.
- 04Trained the maintenance team on commissioning and standard parameter sets.
Outcome
What changed.
14% reduction in motor-related electricity consumption.
Bearing-related failures down ~80% on replaced positions.
Start-up current on critical mills reduced 65% with VFD addition.
Technologies & equipment
