Kuwait Power Generation Equipment: Market Overview 2025

Kuwait's power generation sector sits squarely under the Ministry of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy (MEW). Generation capacity has historically been concentrated in a handful of large thermal plants — Doha East, Doha West, Az-Zour, Subiya, Shuaiba. Demand for spares and capacity additions is steady, and the country has begun moving on a renewables programme that adds incremental procurement lines.
The Kuwaiti generation fleet runs major OEM gas turbines and steam turbines, with parts demand concentrated in combustion components, generator AVR / exciter assemblies, governor electronics, and the supporting lube-oil systems.
Kuwait transmits at 132 kV and 400 kV; distribution is at 11 kV. HV switchgear (GIS and AIS), power transformers, MV switchgear, distribution transformers, and the supporting protection and control are all consistent procurement lines.
Boiler feed pumps, condensate pumps, cooling-water pumps, fans, plus motors and drives. Cooling-water at the coastal plants is seawater — the corrosion design point is severe.
MEW runs tenders through the Central Tenders Committee. Approval typically requires manufacturer documentation, type test certificates, and a track record on comparable installations.
Shuwaikh Port and Shuaiba Port handle most industrial imports. Kuwait International Airport handles urgent spares. Customs duty is typically 5%; clearance is efficient.
